For those not in the know, this is actually how Santa arrives at your home. With a good old freefall descent.

Merry Christmas to all anyway.

What did you do to commemorate this wonderful occasion?

Went on a shopping spree a few days ago and guess what I got for myself at HMV.

Although it set me back 83 bucks I still love it to death. =)

merveilles!

 Posted by Picasa

the handbag issue

Was just reading some teenage magazine when I came across the oft-discussed handbag issue. There still isn't an agreement on where gentlemanly behaviour ends and a man starts degrading himself.

I personally believe that it doesn't matter at all! It all depends on what the individual thinks really. If he doesn't mind carrying his girlfriend's handbag or helping her collect her skirt, then why should the rest of us be? I know for sure that I wouldn't give a hoot.

Perhaps the issue came to a light due to a small number of highly disgruntled male chauvinists who were probably more obsessed about their ego and image than about the little things that make your other half happy. Well if you don't want to look caring to her, there are many of us here who want to. Don't accuse us of being sissies when you subsequently lose your girl though.

But then again, it's all really a joke though. How such a trivial matter became a topic of hot discussion is still quite beyond me. There are a 10001 things which matter more in life you know.

be with you

The promotional poster for the Japanese hit "Be With You". (Oddly enough I could only find Korean and Chinese posters. Japanese ones were nowhere in sight.)

"'Good morning.' `Good night.' `This tastes good.' `Are you alright?' `Did you sleep well?' `Come here.' Love lives within these words. To me, that's what being a couple is all about. But back then, I hadn't realized it yet." The above passage is an excerpt from Takuji Ichikawa's best-selling novel "Ima, Ai ni Yukimasu," from which the film "Be with You" takes its inspiration. Sweetly melancholy and ultimately uplifting, this tender love story has been brought to the silver screen by the assured touch and insightful sensibility of noted television director Nobuhiro Doi in his feature film debut. Talented young stars Yuko Takeuchi ("Yomigaeri: Resurrection") and Shidou Nakamura ("Ping Pong") vividly portray two lovers reunited by a mysterious quirk of fate who tentatively rediscover each other and the miraculous circumstances that have brought them together. Infused into the film's simple structure, which glides fluently between memories and the present, is a poignant expression of the manifold nature of love. The gentle resonance of "Be with You" will no doubt strike an inspirational chord in the hearts of viewers everywhere. (from http://www.tbs.co.jp/movie/english/bewithyou/)

A must for anybody who loves a good old tear-jerking movie.

lost!

No I didn't really lose anything.

But I do feel a sense of loss after forgetting to bring my diary/planner home. Hence the lack of ideas for an entry. I can't plan my schedule properly too.

Anyway I just realised that corned beef isn't much good after all. I had some to go with my soup for dinner, but almost as soon as I had my first mouth I felt sick. I'm going to stick with the tried and trusted luncheon meat for now.

Sleepy sleepy sleepy is the feeling right now. Shall dream up of stuff to post soon. =)

early morning tests

The Keys to Your Heart

You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.

In love, you feel the most alive when your partner is patient and never willing to give up on you.

You'd like to your lover to think you are stylish and alluring.

You would be forced to break up with someone who was emotional, moody, and difficult to please.

Your ideal relationship is lasting. You want a relationship that looks to the future... one you can grow with.

Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment.

You think of marriage as something precious. You'll treasure marriage and treat it as sacred.

In this moment, you think of love as something you can get or discard anytime. You're feeling self centered.

Now I'm REALLY bored.

My boarding pass. The key back home! And not to mention to some work moving luggages as well.

But that doesn't matter, it means I still get to return home!

dinner

 Posted by Picasa

This was my buffet dinner on the last night of the trip. A far cry from camp food and combat rations of course. If you can't look beyong the mish-mash on the plate, there's rice and pasta, spicy chicken slices, deep fried fish, beef and some vegetables.

But as if you really wanted to know what goes into my stomach anyway.

These guys are supposedly the water taxi drivers in the capital. However they come across more like professional boat racers to me with their high speed antics. These guys can duck under bridges and negotiate traffic with ease. And some with a cigarette in hand.

That is the biggest syringe and needle I've ever seen in my entire life. By a long way too.

My buddy! Looking a bit tired and sian though. After a hard day's worth of shopping of course.

But I think we all ought to grow our hair quicker. We look like crap now.

That's the father's mosque again, but I managed to take in some of the fountains as well.

These guys sure are rich. Who wants to be an oil magnate?

This mosque was built by the Sultan's father. Looks more shiny than the Sultan's mosque though. And it's right by the river, which makes it all the more picturistic.

This is the mosque built by the current Sultan of Brunei. And yes those domes are real 24K gold. In fact you'd be hard pressed to find something not made of gold inside.

It's a room with a view! Sounds great yes?

But take note that this room is also incredibly cramped, stuffy and sometimes infested with insects too. It's not the holiday camp that it tries to make itself out to be sadly.

This is where I spent some of my days sleeping in. I wonder how people can actually tolerate living in such conditions.

But then again when you have a place to rest, you can't really complain can you?

back from a long holiday

Well HOLIDAY MY ASS! I was in Brunei for the past 3 weeks if memory serves you well enough.

Took a few pictures while I was at it though. Enjoy.

gone in five hours

How I wish time would stop now.

Will be leaving for Brunei at 11.30pm tonight for 3 weeks. Being the homebody that I am that is certainly not good news.

Heck, I'm not even going to take part in training. Injury means that I'll just sit around there waiting for things to do. And when there is, it's usually shit job that'll aggravate the injury.

Still can't imagine how I won't be home for another 3 weeks. My block leave after the trip better not be touched.

Am extremely grumpy if you can't tell by now already.

this is more like it

This is just in stark contrast to the scene at the xiao long bao assembly line. A master quietly at work on his own.

I think this should be the way that food is made. With feelings, emotions and most of all individuality. Not transformed into an endless production chain in the name of quality control.

In fact quality control is what makes food taste bland. It makes food taste dull and predictable, and takes the fun out of eating.

Anyway I didn't have lunch here. Just some random restaurant I came across. Looked pretty expensive though.

the sea monster

Nope, this post isn't about the sea or some sea monster. More about the lack of activity on this blog!

As you can probably figure out by now, I'm encountering a very serious case of mind block. Blame a lack of time to go out and have fun leading to a dearth of inspiration. Help!

There's not even going to be a picture to accompany this post! At this rate I'm going to chase away anybody who intends to read my blog regularly. Or even just for once!

the xiao long bao assembly line

 Posted by Picasa

Ever wondered how many people does it take to make a dumpling? Well count for yourselves the number of people crowded in that kitchen. Yes, THAT many.

Today's lunch was at Din Tai Fung aka the xiao long bao assembly line I just mentioned. Although the xiao long baos were quite delicious, I still cannot comprehend why so many people were involved in making the dish.

I'd recommend the place, if only to watch the spectacle that is the making of a xiao long bao. By the way, they whip up a decent selection of noodles too.

the mess!

This is the "desk" upon which my desktop sits. A pretty amazing sight I must admit.

I think some of the CDs have been left there for years! Blame it on the lack of space on my CD racks. Guess it's time to get new ones!

By the way, I hate untidiness. Okay, a little bit of it is still tolerable, but this is just pushing it too far.

Let's hope that I find time for this soon.

first

This will be version 4.0 of my blog. Versions 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1 can be found, but not here. I forgot their addresses. =)

Anyway, look forward to more interesting posts (I hope) in future. But welcome for now anyway.
